Google ‘Urgent Hiring’ and you will get a plethora of openings thrown at your face.

Daunting? I know.
Where do you start when Google offers pages and pages of options from virtual assistant to executive accountants?
If you try to be more specific, results then narrow down to: ‘Not a lot of options’.
Thank you, Google.
Per a report published by CNN Philippines on June 5, 2020, unemployment rate as of April 2020 jumped to 17.7% or about 7.3 million Filipinos have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. To give us a comparison, this is a jump from 5.1% as of April 2019.
In only 12 months, about 5 million more people have lost their jobs. Not only that, but many Filipinos who weren’t laid off are still employed with companies that have not resumed operations since the quarantine, such as hotels, resorts and a few restaurants. As these businesses remain closed, employees under these sectors are not earning anything.
These are not just individuals in a statistic, but people with families, children, and even pets.
With all that, here are 5 industries that are in need of talent despite the pandemic.
Positions offered range from full time jobs to part-time/project based tasks.
1. Call Center Agent- BPOs
There are many BPOs that have retrenched. That is a fact.
But there are also a handful that are in desperate need of talent. From sales support to customer reps and non-voice positions, many BPOs are posting urgent.
2. Freelancing
As many are still technically employed but are not reporting for work, this is a good way to make use of your time. This is also a perfect option for many who have lost their jobs and need income before looking for a full time job when society stabilizes.
Many freelancing sites have continued to thrive despite the pandemic. Every day, new projects are still posted even if the world seemed to stand still.
Freelancing allows you to work from home, and work on your own time.
Just scrolling through Upwork, Freelancer, and Fiverr, side hustles don’t seem to be running out any time soon.
3. Online ESL Teacher
For those who can speak good enough English, have good internet connection, and are not afraid of the camera this might be perfect for you.
Many local English tutorial centers have been shifting their lessons online over the past few years. Today, there are many online platforms for both teacher and students in the world wide web.
Only some of these are 51Talk, Rarejob, and Acadsoc.
4. Be a Contact Tracer
According to the Department of Health, the Philippines is in need of about 94,000 contact tracers.
So what do you do? Track down people who have interacted with an infected person. Like a detective.
Although there are no specific guidelines on how to apply, don’t be afraid to approach your Barangay Hall or local City Health Office to inquire.
Who knows? There may be other openings you may find.

5. Logistics
Even if you were shut in your home, food delivery services and online shopping remained available to you.
If you have a motor bike or a regular bike, you might want to give this a try.
Grab, Food Panda and Ninjavan make it so easy to apply and be a rider.
